Harm Reduction

 
 

Harm reduction aims to keep people safe and minimise death, disease, and injury from high-risk behaviour.

It involves a range of support services and strategies to enhance the knowledge, skills, resources, and supports for individuals, families and communities to be safer and healthier.

Harm reduction activities and interventions to improve the health and quality of life for individuals who use drugs include:

  • Needle and syringe programs (NSPs);

  • HIV Rapid Test;

  • Provision of primary health care including wound care;

  • Safer sex education and supply;

  • Referral to drug treatment programs as requested;

  • Outreach and education: Make contact with people who use substances to encourage safer behaviour;

  • Ice Harm Reduction services and tools.
